Android Devices Trickling In A Few Days Early?

There is still a day left for the first Android based Device, T-Mobile G1, to come out into the hands of general public but I was in a for a small surprise as I went through my Google Analytics report for the last week. It had a mysterious number of 2 sitting at the bottom of my “Unique Visitors by Operating Systems” filter report. The “mysterious” part coming from the fact that the left most column displayed “Android”.

Now, the question is whether the T-Mobile G1 (aka HTC dream) is already out into a few hands (leaked to lucky googlers/HTCers/T-Mobilers?) or somebody just modified the agent string reported to my web server? (Since this is a “unique visitors” report, the 2 people have to be different and hence second option doesn’t seem likely to me)

Did you consider that maybe somebody was browsing your site using the Android SDK?
I know I do…

@TribaalL: Yeah I thought about it, but then I thought why would someone browse my “lowly” website on it. I mean if somebody is using the SDK to surf it would mostly be for testing/checking out purpose, not real browsing and there is no way on earth someone would jump to my site for that

I’ve seen one in a T-Mobile store a couple weeks ago- they even let me browse a few sites with it. I teased them it must be nice to have a G3 network all to themselves…

Some info: G1’s were given to some at the big Press to-do last month. Some of us in the Engineering side recently got a chance to play with it for a while.

I pre-ordered my G1 phone from Tmobile last month, with an estimated ship date of 10/22. But it arrived in the mail yesterday, 10/20 — two days before they said they’d ship it! So they shipped ‘em a little earlier than they said they would — no complaints from me.
