Well the coupon code doesn’t work anymore, but there are a few around that do if you upgrade.

I love dropbox, it’s more for syncing and sharing as opposed to backups. But i really like Spideroak too, minus the web interface, it needs work. You can use both in tandem quite well

Hi shantz.

1st of all, thx for all your effort you’re sharing.

Maybe it’s a little bit late, but I just stumbled upon this post.
Dropbox is nice, yes, especially for instant sharing content with (special interest) buddies/groups (for instance for music production)

However, I haven’t installed the daemon for quite some time now, hope things improved in the meanwhile. But I’m fine with the web interface too.

Well, “service” would be seriously exaggerated, but I love ompload.

Very simple, very basic CLI to upload (a) file(s) up to 1GB (!each!) of size. As it’s NOT moderated and there are no useraccounts neither, this isn’t a really safe way to store your files online. However, it is the handiest way to quickly upload foobar you want to share with someone right now!

Here’s some sample output:

@Smiley, yeah i just tried out Dropbox and it looks quite simple and easy plus the web interface is much better than spideroak. Also, dropbox seems a bit more reliable on face value as they use Amazon S3 at backend while spideroak have their own servers though this could mean nothing..
And thnx for letting me know abt the 1 year clause, didn’t know that

I’m loving Dropbox – super simple. It just works.

On the other hand, the zero-knowledge mantra of SpiderOak is awesome.

Personally, I’m sticking with Dropbox for now still.
